Artist Statement
As an artist, I am deeply drawn to the human form as the most intricate and fascinating harmony of volumes and mechanics in nature. My figurative sculptures are modeled through accidental and irrational mark-making, allowing for the instinctive evolution of each work in an atmosphere of constant improvisation.
My deliberate choice to avoid narrative ensures that my conscious mind does not impose any influencing context upon the piece. Each new mark is informed by the clay itself, leading the sculpture in new and unexpected directions.
As the work develops and I become fully absorbed, I find myself transitioning from a creator to almost that of a spectator, observing the piece as it unfolds. The result is a work that takes on a life of its own, the final form of each sculpture manifesting itself spontaneously and organically.
Through my work, I aim to capture the complexity and beauty of the human form, while simultaneously embracing the unpredictability of the creative process. I invite the viewer to appreciate the endless possibilities that arise when we allow ourselves to be open to the unknown.
